Making Adjustments

One of the first things I did when I arrived last weekend was to purchase an air mattress for us to sleep on. I figured I'd have to get the same old thing that we have for our camping trips (ha!), you know, the kind that pump up but are low to the ground and just don't offer too much support. But I really lucked up and came across a Coleman brand elevated air mattress that in just 2 or 3 minutes pumps up as tall as my kneecaps! I pumped it up Monday and haven't had to add any extra air at all. It's perfect for the three of us and is especially nice for such a long stay.
I'll admit that the first two nights I slept in my mom's bed because I thought she might need me. And, I will admit my first night (last night) to sleep witih the children on the new air mattress was a disaster, but I don't think it was the fault of the air mattress. I'd intended to sleep with my mom again, but I was still up on my laptop in her bed at 1:30 a.m. when Alexander cried. I ran in there to console him and decided I'd sleep with the kids since I don't get the chance to snuggle up with them like this too much at home, as we do insist they sleep in their own beds there. I think we all slept solidly for two more hours. But we were all pretty much up from 3:30 on. The children were both restless and keeping each other up and just generally not going back to sleep. I may have snuck in another hour, or two at most, in 15 minutes stretches. As a result the rest of the day was awful. Anna, especially, was not minding me too much. I'm praying that tomorrow is a much better day.
On a happy note, I went out late this afternoon and bought a new pair of fancy shoes. Thanks, Mikel! I think I'll wear them when I go out tomorrow night with my old friends (thanks Aunt Lou Ann for being here a couple of nights) after the kids have gone to bed.
Yesterday afternoon, the children and I ran some errands and then I let them hit the softball around in mom's little courtyard. After today, I am seriously considering dropping them off at some sort of drop-in day care type thing if it's allowed. Hopefully, they would accept a faxed version of shot records from our pediatrician. I think there is some sort of Mother's Day Out program here, but I don't know too much about it. Anyway, I think it's be good for the children to be able to play with other kids their age and not be confined to mom's apartment or running errands with me. I have to keep them on a tight leash, and I'm sure that's no fun.
Mom's still weak. I've been changing her wound dressings every night and helping her shower.
