King Cake Babies

We're in the thick of Mardi Gras celebrations down here in Louisiana. We've already gobbled up a very yummy King Cake for Anna and Alexander. Here they are with the prized baby hidden inside.
King cakes are oval shaped and topped with icings and sugars and are filled with fruits or cream cheese or pecan pralines or, like ours, Bavarian cream. The person who gets the piece with the baby hidden inside is supposed to host the next party or bring the next cake or something like that. I think it's called a King cake because it is supposed to be in honor of the three wise men who visited the baby Jesus on the 'Twelfth Night," which is the event that kicks off the whole Mardi Gras season each year.
While Mardi Gras is on Tuesday, there is some sort of children's parade and other festivities for little ones on Sunday. We'll definitely go to that. There is a dog parade, also, that I'm sure they'd love.
Mom's home and seems to be feeling better. The kids are so cute helping her out by bringing stuff to her in bed. Anna has been especially helpful and seems to relish her role as a little nurse.

One year I was at a trade show for work and I found the baby in the King cake that they were handing out and won a trip to New Orleans, air and hotel for two!
I am sure having you and the babies around is helping your mom feel much better!
