Adoption Picnic

It was a hot one today, but we braved the temps to join other families and their internationally adopted children for a picnic. The gathering didn't start until 4 p.m. so that helped save us all! I forgot to count the number of families, but I'd guess maybe there were 10 or so. It seemed that most adopted their children from either South Korea or China. The group had a Chinese New Year celebration at a local Chinese restaurant earlier this year, and we were told about 75 people attended. It's nice to meet other adoptive families and share common experiences.

Mikel had to leave a bit early to play in the church softball league. After the kids and I waded in a creek at the park (and Alexander decided he was going to just have a seat in the water to play with the pebbles), we drove to cheer on daddy and his team. We'd attended a few games earlier in the summer before it got so hot. The children are always talking about their daddy playing softball, so we needed to go see him play again before the league ended. Incidentally, at those earlier games they learned the cheer "Go Team Go!" and have since equated it with anything remotely sporty. They're always yelling "Go Team Go!" throughout the house, particularly when they hit those little golf balls.

As you can see in the photos, Alexander is sporting a new look. I think it's so cute. Believe it or not, Mikel cut Alexander's hair yesterday while Anna and I were at swim class. Turns out I married a multi-talented man.

By the way, that fire I wrote about last night engulfed a little more than 300 acres, not the 600 originally thought. Just thought I should make that correction. It's being reported that the fire is 35 percent contained right now.
