Big Girl

Anna is so smart and getting so big in everything she does.

Today at lunch she saw some just-purchased plums at the center of the table with the bananas (her pronunciation sounds more like menes) and clearly said apple. I explained that the fruit looks like a small apple but is actually a plum. I gave it to her to feel and she proceeded to eat it. Of course that was fine, but for some reason I was a bit shocked. Is this something that a person knows how to do instinctively or naturally? Or did she eat or see people eat such a fruit before we met her. I'm pretty sure she hasn't seen Mikel or me eat an apple, as I usually cut them. And I haven't purchased plums since we've been with her.

Later at dinner, she fed herself Chicken N Stars soup without spilling a drop. (Curiously, she feeds herself soup more cleanly than she does yogurt). She even knew to dip her Saltine into the soup.

She also now knows the word Russia. One of our children's picture books has two Russian "nesting dolls" on the cover. I've pointed out a couple time that they are Russian dolls. Today I pointed to the picture and she said "Russia." And the pronunciation was pretty good!

P.S.: Her Sesame Street (aka "Elmo") Band-Aid on her forehead is the result of a stumble walking back to the apartment from the playground today.
