Doctors make house calls

In order to schedule an appt with the US Embassy for the children's final papers to enter the US, they need medical checks done here. The doctor comes to your hotel (7 a.m. Sunday), which is nice and convenient.

He checked over both children and gave them a thumbs up. He cautioned that Ruslan may have a lazy eye, but didn't think his respiratory problems were more than a cold. He confirmed that Yana had scabies so we gave her some of the steroid cream that doctors in the States had given us. It is contagious and its possible she could have passed it on to Ruslan, and even us. We won't know for three weeks. Scabies is a common issue here with orphanage children. The doctor also noted that Yana is a little short on the growth chart and seems to have rickets (nobby knees, bow legs), but that it's so mild and common, that just more Vitamin D in her diet should take care of that easily.
